MUSHROOM EXTRACTS

Research has shown that mushroom extracts are beneficial to support a healthy immune system.  The first seven are in our new Superfoods Immune Energizer
  • Agaricus blazei comes from the Brazilian rain forest.  It is rich in the immunomodulating polysaccharides, β-glucans, and has been shown to have antitumor, anti-infection, and antiallergic/asthmatic properties in mouse models, in addition to anti-inflammatory effects in inflammatory bowel disease patients. These effects are mediated through the mushroom's stimulation of innate immune cells, such as monocytes, NK cells, and dendritic cells, and the amelioration of a skewed Th1/Th2 balance and inflammation.
  • Bionectria ochroleuca from Cordyceps metabolites show a broad spectrum of antibacterial, antifungal and anti-dermatophytic activity.
  • Turkey Tail (coriolus versicolor) contains a wide variety of phenol and flavonoid antioxidants which help promote immune system health by reducing inflammation and stimulating the release of protective compounds - PSK and PSP, powerful polysaccharopeptides.  Turkey tail may positively impact gut bacterial balance by enhancing the growth of beneficial bacteria while suppressing harmful species.
  • Reishi (ganodema lucidumn) can enhance immune function through its effects on white blood cells, which help fight infection and cancer. This may occur primarily in those who are ill, as mixed results have been seen in those who are healthy.  Some preliminary studies have shown that Reishi can decrease anxiety and depression as well as improve quality of life in those with certain medical conditions.
  • Maitake or Hen-of-the-Woods (grifola frondosa) is known for its anti-cancer, anti-viral and immune-enhancing properties in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine.
  • Lion's Mane (hericium erinaceus) Research suggests Lion's Mane may offer a range of health benefits, including reduced inflammation and improved cognitive and heart health.
  • Shiitake (lentinula edodes) consumption improves cell effector function and gut immunity, as well as a reduction of inflammation.
     
  • AHCC (Activate Hexose Corrolated Compound) from Shiitake and other mushroom mycelia increases Natural Killer (NK) cell activity. (NOT in Superfoods Immune Energizer)
